Straight Down To Business.
Neville Reyner CBE, the former president of the British Chambers of Commerce, spoke at the very first joint networking event which saw the Chambers of Commerce for Bury St Edmunds, Newmarket and Haverhill meet at Ickworth West Wing.
In addition, he was joined with Patrick Gihana Mulenga, Matthew Hancock MP and Jan Cavelle to name a few, for what was a big day for networking and businesses in Suffolk.
Patrick, the commercial attaché for the Rwandan Embassy spoke of how businesses in West Suffolk would, and should, be able to work in conjunction with people in Rwanda to boost trade.
Matthew Hancock MP for West Suffolk attended the event. He urged West Suffolk businesses to take part in the new Red Tape challenge which the Government has launched to help reduce the red tape which surrounds them.
Matthew had this to say “West Suffolk has huge potential for growth. But we need to fight for good travel links and good broadband so that the county can open itself for business. The national business environment also needs to be freed from the stranglehold of health and safety fear and red tape so that local businesses can flourish.”
Jan Cavelle, who is a UKFEA (Female Entrepreneurship Ambassador), "Enterprise Superstar" for the Eastern Hub in Ipswich and co-founder to "Enterprising Acorns" in Haverhill, was also present at the event.
Jan spoke about how businesses could survive the recession and even come out stronger because of it, an inspiring speech which was definite food for thought for all those who attended.
The event was closed by Cllr John Griffiths, head of the St Edmundsbury BC. After the serious talks about the business, the event was rounded off with a quaint afternoon tea and champagne for any non-members of the chambers to socialise in an informal setting with those that were members.
Jan Cavelle spoke at the Great Debate and arguing the point that the government intervenes too much with small businesses, and that the red tape surrounding them should be cut. Arguing the point with her was Baroness Jo Valentine, a cross bench peer in the House of Lords and Rt Hon David Davis MP. The debate was chaired by Calum MacDonald, the current President of the Cambridge Union Society.

Members of the sales team here at Jan Cavelle attended the show this year to familarise themselves with current trends, speak to our clients and to see our furniture featured on some of our client stands. This is something we feel is extremely important for our sales team to experience and we encourage them to take as much away from the day as they can.
